Detroit (Michigan, USA)

Detroit - Michigan

Detroit has suffered from economic change like hardly any other city in the USA. The pandemic has added to the difficulty of life. Nevertheless, in many places, away from the decaying factories, one can see a strong will to reinvent itself. The strong focus on the automobile as the primary, if not exclusive, means of transportation hinders this process. Even if the city is lively enough to fill the restaurants and bars, this is not evident from the streetscape. The wide streets are empty, leaving a dystopian urban landscape. The track of the only elevated train runs through the city center as a sculptural installation, reminding us of a transportation system that could function differently.
